OPTIMUS-6G at the ETSI Open-Source Operator Platform (OpenOP) Plenary Meeting, hosted by Intracom Telecom in Athens, Greece on 23 July 2026.

The meeting was led by the Chair of ETSI OpenOP, Vasileios Theodorou, PhD, from Intracom Telecom, who also serves as the Technical Manager of OPTIMUS-6G. He was joined by Dimitris Gogos, Vasiliki Parousidou, and Kostas Chartsias from Intracom Telecom, who presented the latest developments and ongoing activities within ETSI OpenOP, highlighting the initiative’s progress and its growing ecosystem.

The plenary was also attended by OPTIMUS-6G Project Coordinator Nikolaos Petroulakis and Dissemination Manager Simos Symeonidis, PhD. Their participation reflects the project’s commitment to engaging with the standardization community, following emerging technologies and open-source developments, and identifying opportunities that may benefit the project’s future activities.

Active engagement with standards development organizations is a key objective of OPTIMUS-6G, ensuring that the project’s research remains aligned with the evolving European 6G landscape while contributing to the broader communications ecosystem.

🚀 We have officially kicked off OPTIMUS-6G with a virtual meeting full of energy, collaboration, and motivation!
Our Project Coordinator, Dr Nikolaos Petroulakis (FORTH) presented the overall project vision and roadmap, setting the stage for the exciting work ahead. Consortium partners then introduced their respective work packages and Tasks, aligning our expertise and defining our collective objectives.

We were also pleased to welcome our Project Officer, Tambiama Madiega, who highlighted the role of OPTIMUS-6G within the Smart Networks and Services Joint Undertaking (SNS JU), providing valuable insights into the strategic vision and direction of Europe’s next-generation communication networks.

🌍 Zero travel emissions, maximum momentum. With our targets set and our collaboration underway, our European innovation journey has officially begun.

We’re already looking forward to our first in-person consortium meeting, which will take place this October at the Foundation for Research and Technology – Hellas (FORTH) premises in Heraklion, Crete. It will be a great opportunity to strengthen our collaboration and continue driving the project forward.

OPTIMUS-6G will hold its virtual kick-off meeting on 10 July 2026, bringing together the project partners for the first joint coordination session.

The meeting will provide the opportunity to introduce the consortium, discuss the project’s objectives, review the initial work plan, and align partners on the next steps. OPTIMUS-6G focuses on advancing 6G-enabled IoT networks for unlicensed spectrum operations across the computing continuum, combining multi-band communications, AI-driven orchestration, and network digital twin technologies.

The virtual kick-off will mark the beginning of the project’s collaborative activities toward the development and validation of the OPTIMUS-6G framework across industrial, healthcare, and campus network use cases.
