Optimized 6G-enabled IoT networks for unlicensed operations in the computing continuum

Aim

OPTIMUS-6G aims to develop a multi-domain network architectural framework that enhances multi-functional communication for IoT devices and applications operating in 6G unlicensed bands. The project will combine multi-band radio and optical communication technologies, hardware-agnostic cross-layer protocols, and AI-enabled resource and data orchestration to support reliable, high-bandwidth and low-latency connectivity across heterogeneous IoT environments. A digital-twin-enabled framework will support model calibration, testing and performance optimisation across the computing continuum, from IoT devices to edge and cloud resources. The resulting architecture will be validated through three use cases addressing manufacturing, healthcare and campus networks, with a focus on long-term, unattended and optimised 6G-IoT operations.

Multi-band Radio and Optical Connectivity

OPTIMUS-6G will design an IoT network architecture based on multi-functional radio and optical communication technologies to support reliable, high-data-rate and low-latency operations in 6G unlicensed bands.

AI-driven Network and Data Orchestration

OPTIMUS-6G will implement AI-driven cross-layer orchestration to optimize communications, energy efficiency, resource allocation, data processing and IoT services across the computing continuum spanning from IoT to cloud.

Network Digital Twin Framework

OPTIMUS-6G will develop a 6G-enabled, IoT-oriented network digital twin framework to support planning, simulation, monitoring and optimization of the proposed architecture and protocols.
